The Story Behind the Lounge Hat: A Cloud of Comfort

Every design has a starting point, and for the Lounge Hat, it was a quiet evening and a need for comfort.

Years ago, I knitted a Rikke Hat—a classic design I’ve always loved. It became an inseparable companion for my partner, who started wearing it on cold nights or to soothe a headache. It was his "comfort hat," providing that gentle warmth that helps release tension.

When we accidentally lost it during a weekend getaway, I knew I had to create something new. I wanted to evolve that concept of absolute softness, making it even more suitable for the most sensitive skins—like mine.

As someone who often struggles with the "itchy forehead" feeling after wearing a hat for too long, I decided to remove the traditional ribbed brim entirely.

The result is a seamless, smooth tube of SnailYarn Baby Alpaca + Merino. It’s a cloud of fiber that you can wear for hours—or even days—without even noticing it’s there. Last week, during a persistent headache, this hat was my best friend. I wore it for two days straight, switching between this DK version and a lighter one in Merino Sock, without a single moment of discomfort.

The Lounge Hat is a tribute to those moments when we need to slow down and take care of ourselves. I hope this project brings you the same peace it brings to my home.
